This collection contains inputs to, and outputs from the NOAA Harmful Algal Bloom Operational Forecast System (HAB-OFS) in the form of bulletin documents and processed satellite imagery in GeoTIFF format, beginning on 2017-06-25. The HAB-OFS is operated by the Center for Operational Oceanographic Products and Services to produce forecast bulletins for cyanobacteria blooms (blue-green algae) in Lake Erie. The bulletins contain an analysis of the location of cyanobacteria blooms, as well as 3-day forecasts of transport, mixing, scum formation and bloom decline based on the analysis of information from data providers. The bulletins are emailed to subscribers twice weekly during an active bloom. Each year, NCEI creates a new accession containing the data collected during the previous 12 months.
This dataset is available to the public for a wide variety of uses including scientific research and analysis.

MODIS
MODIS
Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer
MODIS (or Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) is a key instrument aboard the Terra (EOS AM) and Aqua (EOS PM) satellites. Terra's orbit around the Earth is timed so that it passes from north to south across the equator in the morning, while Aqua passes south to north over the equator in the afternoon. Terra MODIS and Aqua MODIS are viewing the entire Earth's surface every 1 to 2 days, acquiring data in 36 spectral bands, or groups of wavelengths (see MODIS Technical Specifications).
MODIS Technical Specifications
Orbit: 705 km, 10:30 a.m. descending node (Terra) or 1:30 p.m. ascending node (Aqua), sun-synchronous, near-polar, circular
Scan Rate: 20.3 rpm, cross track
Swath Dimensions: 2330 km (cross track) by 10 km (along track at nadir)
Telescope: 17.78 cm diam. off-axis, afocal (collimated), with intermediate field stop
Size: 1.0 x 1.6 x 1.0 m
Weight: 228.7 kg
Power: 162.5 W (single orbit average)
Data Rate: 10.6 Mbps (peak daytime); 6.1 Mbps (orbital average)
Quantization: 12 bits
Spatial Resolution: 250 m (bands 1-2);
500 m (bands 3-7);
1000 m (bands 8-36)
Design Life: 6 years

Ocean and Land Colour Instrument
Ocean and Land Colour Instrument
OLCI (Ocean and Land Colour Instrument) is a medium-resolution imaging spectrometer that uses five cameras to provide a wide field of view. SLSTR and OLCI are optical instruments with an overlap of their swath path, allowing for new combined applications. This is currently the only sensor in space with the capabilities of detecting cyanobacteria
(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sentinel-3, retrieved 2018-03-14)
The SENTINEL-3 Ocean and Land Colour Instrument (OLCI) is based on the opto-mechanical and imaging design of ENVISAT's MERIS instrument. The main characteristics of the OLCI are:
swath width: 1 270 km
push-broom imaging spectrometer with five cameras, mitigation of sun-glint contamination by tilting cameras in westerly direction
spatial sampling: 300 m @ SSP
spectrum: 21 bands [0.4-1.02] µm
radiometric accuracy: 2% abs, 0.1% rel
launch mass: 153 kg
size: 1.3 m3
design lifetime: 7.5 years.
