The Multi-center Airborne Coherent Atmospheric Wind Sensor (MACAWS) was deployed during the Third Convection and Moisture Experiment (CAMEX-3). MACAWS data for the line-of-sight velocity and intensity as a function of range, backscattered intensity, turbulence approximation, and complex covariance was gathered for the period of 3 August 1998 through 22 September 1998. The objective of the CAMEX-3 mission was to study hurricanes over land and ocean in the U.S., Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean, and Western Atlantic ocean in coordination with multiple aircraft and reserach-quality radar, lightning, radiosonde, and raingauge sites.
