The Deep Blue aerosol product from the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) uses the Deep Blue (DB) algorithm over land and Satellite Ocean Aerosol Retrieval (SOAR) algorithm over water to determine atmospheric aerosol loading for daytime cloud-free snow-free scenes. This data product is designed to facilitate continuity in the aerosol record provided by the Deep Blue aerosol project for other sensors including the Sea-viewing Wide Field- of-view Sensor (SeaWiFS) and Terra/Aqua Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometers (MODIS). This is a Level-3 product generated at 1 degree horizontal spatial resolution. It is created by spatiotemporal aggregation of the Level 2 (swath-based) VIIRS Deep Blue product (VNPAERDB_L2) from granules collected over one calendar day, thus gaps in the aerosol data will appear wherever that does not provide data (e.g. clouds, snow/ice, and polar night).
