  • Abstract
    Active soil moisture estimates onto a 3-km global Earth-fixed grid, based on radar backscatter measurements acquired when the SMAP spacecraft is travelling from North to South at approximately 6:00 AM local time.
  • Purpose
    The SMAP L2_SM_A algorithm provides soil moistures based on synthetic-aperture radar data on a 3 km grid. The high-resolution radar data are used by the active/passive algorithm in L2_SM_AP to disaggregate the 36 km radiometer measurements to create the 9 km active-passive products.
