The Mapping Application for Penguin Populations and Projected Dynamics (MAPPPD) is a web-based, open access, decision support tool designed to assist scientists, non-governmental organizations, and policymakers working to meet the management objectives as set forth by CCAMLR and other components of the ATS (i.e., Consultative Meetings and the ATS Committee on Environmental Protection). MAPPPD was designed specifically to complement existing efforts such as the CCAMLR Ecosystem Monitoring Program (CEMP) and the ATS's Visitor Site Guidelines. The database underlying MAPPPD includes all available (published and unpublished) data on the four penguin species (Emperor, Gentoo, Adlie, and Chinstrap) with significant breeding populations south of 60 S. Population models can then be used to assimilate available data into estimates of abundance for each site and for each year; estimates are easily aggregated across multiple sites to obtain abundance estimates over any user-defined area of interest. A front-end web interface located at www.penguinmap.com provides free and ready access to the most recent count and modeled data, and can act as a facilitator for data transfer between scientists and Antarctic stakeholders to help inform management decisions for the continent. The downloads are tailored to represent the query made in the mapping application. Users can download the occupancy data from the presence/absence model, as well as the model results from the population model for the region selected. Further, all count data can be retrieved, and site locations can be downloaded as .KML files. Quality flags of 1 are those of the highest accuracy (e.g., recent ground counts that are site-wide), while flags of 5 are those of the lowest (e.g., estimates from satellite data or modeled output).SUNYSB/EE > Department of Ecology and Evolution, Stony Brook UniversityprocessorTally Countergov.nasa.esdis.umm.instrumentshortnameTally CounterNot providedOLIgov.nasa.esdis.umm.instrumentshortnameOperational Land ImagerNot providedOLIgov.nasa.esdis.umm.instrumentshortnameOperational Land ImagerNot providedASInvgov.nasa.esdis.umm.projectshortnameAntarctic Site InventorySOOSgov.nasa.esdis.umm.projectshortnameSouthern Ocean Observing SystemFIELD SURVEYSgov.nasa.esdis.umm.platformshortnameIn Situ Land-based PlatformsplatformInformationcounttotal number of chicks, adults or nests counted at a siteINTTBDTBDLANDSAT-7gov.nasa.esdis.umm.platformshortnameEarth Observation SatellitesplatformInformationcounttotal number of adults estimated from guano stainsINTTBDTBDLANDSAT-5gov.nasa.esdis.umm.platformshortnameEarth Observation Satellites
