text: Météo-France is the national meteorological and climatological service. Its primary mission is to ensure the meteorological security of people and property. It is particularly reflected in the development of a weather alertness card indicating the dangerous phenomena, their consequences and the precautions to take to protect themselves. The meteorological Vigilance system is supplemented in France by marine bulletins and avalanche risk estimation bulletins, and overseas, by a cyclone watch and warning system.

The core missions of Météo-France include:
• the development and maintenance of an observation network
• the collection and processing of climatological data
• the weather forecast
• the development of climate projections
• research in the fields meteorology and climate.

Météo-France serves three main types of customers:
• State services (security of persons and goods) and Defense
• Aeronautics
• Professionals from various economic sectors (energy, collectivities, public works, etc.) .)

One of the strengths of the institution is to cover all fields from the operational to the research, at all scales of time and space. Cross-fertilization between the work of engineers and researchers is a major asset.

As an international reference service, Météo-France plays a significant role in the main meteorological cooperation agencies: the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), Eumetsat, the operator of European meteorological satellites, and Eumetnet.

A public administrative establishment (EPA) since 1993, Météo-France is currently under the supervision of the Ministry of the Environment, Energy and the Sea.
