<skos:definition xml:lang="en">The Atlantic Climate and Circulation Experiment (ACCE) is a 5-yearprogram sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF) to examineocean-atmosphere interaction in the North Atlantic ocean. The purposeof the experiment is to study the ocean's effect on climate change.Profiling Autonomous Lagrangian Circulation Explorer (PALACE) driftersare used to track water masses in the subarctic gyre and thesubtropical gyre of the North Atlantic ocean. In addition, thesedrifters measure vertical profiles of salinity and temperature in thewater column.Individual projects are conducted by scientists at the University ofWashington, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, Scripps Institutionof Oceanography, the University of Miami, and the NOAA AtlanticOceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML).[This information was obtained from the Profiling Drifters website ofthe Univ. of Washington, School of Oceanography.]</skos:definition>
