<skos:definition xml:lang="en">The Australian Oceanographic Data Centre (AODC) is a national data centre withthe responsibility of acquisition and dissemination of oceanographic datawithin the Department of Defense and with the national and international marinescience community. AODC operates within the International OceanographicCommission's (IOC's) various data exchange programs including the InternationalOceanographic Data and Information Exchange (IODE) program coordinating dataexchange in 'delayed-mode', the Integrated Global Ocean Services System (IGOSS)coordinating data exchange in 'real-time' as well as the Global Temperature andSalinity Profile Program (GTSPP) which is developing new methodologies andtechnologies for the management and exchange of temperature and salinity data.Nationally, the AODC is working in conjunction with the CSIRO Division ofOceanography to standardize quality control procedures for the WOCE Upper OceanThermal Data Assembly Centres.AODC manages bathythermograph, oceanographic station data, secchi disc, bottomtype and bioluminescence observations. Small amounts of current meter data aswell as geophysical and bathymetric parameters are now also managed by thecentre. All data to be used for scientific research or 'public good' purposesare generally freely available on request. Digital data sets may be selectedby geographic area, time period, cruise, shipname, country of origin,maximum/minimum depth or any combination of these criteria. A range ofstandard products such as scatter plots, profile plots, data inventories, summaries and analyses are also available on request. Data can be suppliedvia ftp (file transfer protocol), exabyte or QIC tape, or on floppy disc.Contact Information:Australian Oceanographic Data CentreLevel 2, Maritime Headquarters AnnexeWylde StreetPotts Point, N.S.W., 2011Telephone: +61 2 9359 3119Fax: +61 2 9359 3120Email: info@aodc.gov.auThe AODC is no longer part of the Hydrographic Office of the RoyalAustralian Navy (RAN).
