<skos:definition xml:lang="en">The Joint Global Ocean Flux Study (JGOFS) is a Core Project of theInternational Geosphere-Biosphere Program (IGBP). The goal of JGOFS is toimprove knowledge of the processes controlling carbon fluxes between theatmosphere, surface ocean, ocean interior and its continental margins, andto monitor the sensitivity of these fluxes with respect to climatechanges. The study covers regional to global spatial scales and seasonalto interannual time scales.JGOFS is divided into several task teams including: global survey, processstudy, deep ocean flux, continental margins, photosynthesis measurements, remote sensing, time series, synthesis and modelling, and data management.A global carbon dioxide (CO2) air-sea flux survey is being carried out inclose collaboration with the World Climate Research Program (WCRP) WorldOcean Circulation Experiment (WOCE). Process studies are regional andoccur in the North Atlantic, Equatorial Pacific, North Pacific, theArabian Sea, and the Southern Ocean. Time series studies include theBermuda-Atlantic Time-series Study (BATS); the Hawaii Ocean Time-series(HOTS); European Station for Time-Series in the Ocean, Canary Islands(ESTOC); Ocean Station Papa (PAPA); and Kyodo North Pacific Ocean TimeSeries (KNOT).Contact:-------JGOFS International Project OfficeCentre for Studies of Environment and Resources (SMR)University of BergenBergen High-Technology CentreN-5020 BergenNorwayTel: (+47) 555 84246Fax: (+47) 555 89687email: jgofs@smr.uib.noURL: 'http://ads.smr.uib.no/jgofs/jgofs.htm'[This information was adapted from the IGBP and JGOFS IPO websites.]</skos:definition>
