WaltonSmith, is the University of Miami&apos;s graduate school of marine and atmosphericscience. Dr. Otis Brown is the Dean of the Rosenstiel School. Located on a16-acre campus on Virginia Key in Miami, it is the only subtropical applied andbasic marine and atmospheric research institute of its kind in the continentalUnited States. The Rosenstiel School conducts a broad range of research onlocal, regional, national and global levels.Rosenstiel&apos;s research interests include satellite oceanography, with particularemphasis on remote sensing and satellite imagery, an experimental fishHatchery, a leading global marine and atmospheric chemistry program,comprehensive oceanic and atmospheric numerical modeling activities,sedimentary geology and marine geophysics groups with considerable expertise inseismic methods, and an innovative ocean acoustics program. The school is oneof the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences sites for the Marineand Freshwater Biomedical Sciences Center. It also hosts a number of UMresearch centers, including the National Caribbean Coral Reef Research Center,the Center for Air Sea Interactions, the Center for Southern Tropical AdvancedRemote Sensing, the Pew Institute for Ocean Science, the South Florida andCaribbean Cooperative Ecosystems Studies Unit, the Center for Marine andEnvironmental Analysis, etc..
