ORI scientistsconduct research primarily during expeditions of the research vesselsTansei-maru and Hakuho-maru. As an educational institution of the graduate school of the University ofTokyo, the Ocean Research Institute focuses on nurturing young scientists. Eachof the three graduate schools offers Master's and Ph.D. programs, which includea curriculum of lectures and seminars, as well as hands-on training.
